Armed Forces Day Parade

armed-forces-flagThe Armed Forces Day Parade held in Bremerton is the largest and longest running Armed Forces Day Parade in the nation. Estimates of 25,000 – 40,000 visitors enjoy the (usually) smooth procession of entrants from all branches of the military, police and firefighters, youth organizations, dignitaries, commercial businesses, car clubs and more.

The Kiwanis Club of Bremerton has taken on the role of Parade Marshal for many years. In this position, we are responsible for arranging all the participants behind the scenes ensuring that once they cross the parade start line every individual, car, motorcycle, tractor, clown car, float, boat and all sorts of other entrants are on time and in the correct order.  Not an easy job when you are mixing horses, cars, tanks and bands in a very confined staging area. Like so many of our other projects, it is a lot of work, but the rewards far exceed the tired feet.  Click here to visit the Armed Forces Day Parade web site.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

salvation-army

Everyone recognizes the sound of the Salvation Army bells ringing in front of stores and post offices during the Christmas holidays.  For many years, our club has provided volunteer bell ringers to help in this major fund raising effort.  Working along side our high school Key Club members, we strive to bring a little extra Christmas joy to harried holiday shoppers, and fill the kettles to overflowing. The money raised by the Salvation Army over these few weeks in December fund their programs for the entire year.

Easter Egg Hunt – Kiwanis Park

This is  wonderful family event, growing every year. By combining the efforts of local
easter-eggschurches and neighborhood volunteers, this event is a wonderful way to celebrate the return of Spring. This year’s event will be held April 15 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.

We couldn’t do this alone. Many groups get together to make this a true community event:

  • Community of Christ Church at Memorial Lutheran
  • First Christian Church
  • Our Saviours Lutheran Church
  • Bremerton Foodline
  • Bremerton Parks
  • Kiwanis Club of Bremerton

It takes a LOT of volunteers to stuff over 6,000 plastic eggs!

Annual Summer Picnic

Each summer we gather at one of our member’s home to relax and socialize. Everyone brings their ‘specialty’ and there is never a shortage of food, although some items seem to disappear faster than most. Sharron’s potato salad comes to mind….

Come back later for some pictures from this year’s picnic.
